# Write a page together.

Before a new page, Claude reads the folder map and puts the page where its kind already lives, with its index line. Where you only read, it leaves a proposal.

## new words

**Folder map**
One view of a space's folders: how many pages each holds, its index file, and the one sentence that says what the folder is for.

**Index line**
One line about a page in its folder's index file or in `MEMORY.md`: enough to know whether to open it.

**Skeleton file**
A file that says how the space works, such as its `CLAUDE.md`. Only a manager changes one.

## the lesson

A page holds one thing, and it sits where its kind lives. So Claude reads the folder map first, picks the folder whose purpose fits, and follows that folder's index file. A new kind of thing gets a new folder, with a purpose, never a page at the root.

A change to a page replaces the exact lines that change, or adds to the end. A whole new text is sent only for a new page or a full rewrite, with the version Claude read, so nobody's later change is lost.

| Your role in the space | What Claude does |
| Editor or manager | Makes the change with your yes, and adds the index line in the same change |
| Reader | Leaves a proposal: the full text of the new page, or the exact text to replace and its replacement |
| Anyone, for a skeleton file | Proposes, so a manager decides |

A page is markdown. Its first heading is its title. It states what is true now, for everyone the space is shared with, and it never names your home folder, your machine, or a secret. The sync client writes a short front matter with the page's id; nothing else goes there.

A page lands in the folder whose purpose fits, with its index line. The folders are an example.

## try it

Type this and press Enter, with a thing no page holds yet:

```
Add a page about <thing> where it belongs. Show me the folder you chose and the index line before you write anything.
```

## you should see

- The folder from the map and why it fits, the page's first lines, and its index line, then a question for your yes.
- In a space where you only read: the same, as a proposal left for its editors.
