lesson 7 of 8 · instibrain with claude code
An operation.
An operation is a task with an end goal, days to weeks. Its folder says where things stand, its window opens on it, and when it is done the folder goes.
new words
- Operation
- A multi-session task with an end goal, in
operations/<name>/, deleted when done. - Brief
brief.md: the goal, the deadline, and the table of the files the operation keeps.- Readiness note
- One line Claude gives when it opens on an operation: where things stand, then it waits.
the lesson
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Start | The brief and its index line, and the operation's emoji, set in the same change |
| Open | Claude reads every file in the folder, then prepares: checks for staleness, computes the time to the deadline, names the risks and the blocking decisions. A summary of the brief is not preparation |
| During | The files change as the work moves, so they always say where things stand |
| Close | A refactor, not a delete: live state moves to its permanent page, every link is repointed, then the folder and its index line go |
The instibrain button's menu lists each operation; pick one, and the window opens on it. An operation planned but not yet running waits in operations/planning/ until its start gate opens.
An operation of an open space has a room: the people on it, their AIs, and the agents added to it. It ends when the operation closes. Operations are working state, never history: what lasts lives on the pages it shaped.
